Being in nature is where I am happiest and at peace. I grew up in a family that lived in an urban city in the south but frequently visited my grandparents farms in the rural Appalachian Mountains most weekends and summers. I spent a lot of time outside growing up exploring the woods with my dad and brother and riding horses with my family down dirt roads and through pastures. I even spent time deer hunting in my youth watching beautiful sunrises, learning to feel, trust and navigate the dark woods, attuning my senses to nature, and playing in the dirt while learning to be patient and still and one with the woods. After a weekend of those activities, I'd return to the noisy hustle and bustle of a major urban city in the south.
I believe my early experiences were showing me differences in not only urban and rural life but the stresses in the city versus the relaxation and peace of deeply being in nature. Personally when I cross the New River in the mountains of North Carolina/Virginia, I notice how much my body shifts and relaxes. I've heard others say the same thing over the years. I really love the Earth and enjoy sharing the benefits of time spent in places of power and beauty with others. This is probably why I majored in disciplines where I could study the earth and the various geologic wonders in different landscapes. My college educational background focused within the areas of natural resources and geography. I understand the processes that create our world from within and on the surface with what they teach us in books. It would take my spiritual re-awakening during my doctorate degree years later to help me remember how to really feel nature, to feel the power certain places have on the Earth, to understand how ancient civilizations honored these places, and what this means for all of us today.
I have learned many things in the traditional classroom setting as a student my entire life and as a college instructor for over 15 years. I love using both my head and my heart to understand things in the natural world. However, no formal education could replace what I learned simply by being in nature for most of my life. In addition to providing comfort and peace of mind, nature has also been where I have received lessons and answers. Being in nature is where I can easily access the wisdom of my heart, especially as I began to understand more in how to work along with the elements and realms from spiritual teachers and elders all over the world.
Over the years I have been blessed with spending time and learning from shamans, mystics, elders and others around the world about cross-cultural healing techniques and things that can only be learned through experience and interactions in person. This love of the natural world and the wisdom from various cultures in regards to our connection to the earth, is what I share with others.
My passion has always centered around working with people, the water element, the mineral kingdom, and with animals. In addition to being a college instructor of Geography, I was an environmental scientist for 10 years and a veterinary technician for another 10 years. They say we pick our parents for life lessons and our gifts in serving others. My mom was an elementary teacher and my dad was a veterinarian, an animal healer for 40+ years. I have learned much from both of them over my life. I know that I picked them to be my parents for the lessons they have taught me along the way spiritually as a person, as well as the gifts they passed on to me as teacher and healer. I did not have premonitions that I can remember as a child but I did have an unusual connection to the elements within the natural world. A lot of what I experienced as a child from communicating with wildlife to hearing water spirits sing, I dismissed as normal. I didn't talk to others about it, it just was. I had a hard time focusing in school but yet did well and excelled at natural sciences. If I could be outside during class, I was especially happy. I also seemed to sense hidden feelings and know what others were thinking which often left me feeling awkward as friends seemed scared of me as a kid as I would just say what I observed. I later shut that sensing gift off to be more "normal" and to have friends. I've learned over time how to open that gift back up and support others with love.
When I turned 28, I had what some may call a spiritual awakening. I began reading books and taking classes on spirituality, various religions, shamanism, energy work, and other topics. I started doing yoga at home (this was before studios were everywhere) and learning to meditate. I left a high paying environmental corporate job, left my first marriage, downsized my life, and begin to explore who I was and why I was here with the help of spiritual advisors, shamans, and energy practitioners that I was magically guided to. I went through dark nights and shed layers of unwanted behaviors, patterns, and beliefs. It was rough. It was hard. I emerged more joyous and internally richer. I did all of this internal work while also being in a doctorate program. I don't know how I survived both worlds at the same time looking back, but something larger was guiding me through both experiences with a purpose. I became a Reiki Master/Teacher, a Huna Master/Teacher, a Crystal Master/Teacher and an Interfaith Minister while also earning my doctorate in Geography. I was between dimensions and worlds in more ways than I can explain. My doctoral research was able to merge my love of nature with spirituality as I focused on Spiritual Landscapes of the Appalachian Mountains and non-secular uses (i.e., meditations, rituals, weddings, memorials, and group ceremonies in nature.)
During my graduate program and on into my late 30's I learned from the shamans and elders that I worked with and from being with my college students, that not everyone can so easily just be in nature. Most people have forgotten their connections to the earth and how to feel her breathe or sense energy at places of power. In some worlds, this is called spidey senses. I realized my gift as a teacher/healer is to share these possibilities and experiences with others as it is possible for all of us to have access to that wisdom and power but we have forgotten and numbed our senses with other things and distractions in the modern world. Through my books, ceremonies, hula classes, and journeys, I share various tools, techniques, and approaches to rebuilding or enhancing our connections to the elements and working with nature.
After many years of being on the path and taking the exit ramp off for various distractions, I have found a way of bridging my academic side with my deeply spiritual side and I enjoy supporting others on their paths to evolve, grow, and learn with their heart and their mind. I've worked with people in many different professions and careers as they rediscover interests, passions, knowledge, lifetimes, and purpose. I teach and share what has worked for me and what I enjoy, as I believe in what I do and offer. I founded this center as a way to empower YOU!
Today I serve as a guide on journeys to special places and help others bridge the scientific and spiritual dimensions of who they are and how they are here to serve as our world moves forward. I integrate what elders and other teachers have shared with me respectfully in various ways to inspire others in serving our world with conscious awareness in working in harmony and in right relationship with the earth, while also advancing as a society together.
Hawaiian Hula Dance is an integral part of how I share my love and appreciation for nature and spiritual healing. In addition I offer sacred journeys and ceremonies. My personal mission states that I serve as an interdimensional dreamer of aloha. I am blessed to do that through all of my offerings today. I am living a dimensional life not only in the variety of things I do and share, but in my perceptions and levels of awareness in our world and beyond. I have found most people limit themselves tremendously and the sessions, courses and books I offer, will hopefully shed light into those areas of limitations so everyone can increase their aliveness and love while on Earth. Throughout the website you may read the term "we" and I want to clarify that the "we", is me doing these services along with my team and your team of beings including ancestors, angels/guides, and others here to assist with love. What I do for each individual often varies slightly as I channel guidance in what comes through unique for each situation.
In 2021 something kept resurfacing for me in how I serve as an Inter-faith Minister. I felt oddly and mystically drawn to understanding death rituals and ceremonies and felt called to study more on being a Funeral Celebrant. Long ago while working with a shaman he mentioned that our first memory held significance in our purpose. My first memory can be read about in an upcoming blog and it has led me to understanding my connection with serving as a bridge between life and death and the holy work involved in honoring souls crossing over. In the blog I go into detail about my personal experiences with this transition we will all go through and being witness to the sacred spaces created for deceased loved ones and their families and friends (and including companion animals.)
If you have any questions about ritual/ceremonies, hula classes, or journeys, contact me. Perhaps what I offer will help you in some way and you'll find and discover more about yourself and who you want to be. Maybe you'll find a community and friends of like minds. One of the benefits of teaching and offering what I have over the years, is witnessing and being part of new friendships that last beyond anything third dimensional. What I offer may not resonate with you but I know there are many other teachers, healers, and authors out there sharing their gifts and many ways to find and discover more of yourself, spiritual guidance, and your answers. I love a Hawaiian saying that not all knowledge is learned in one school, and I believe that also applies to the spiritual things we learn. It is not always in one place or with one teacher. You'll receive what you need to empower yourself or to help others in a variety of ways from each interaction, even from the earth when you slow down.
I look forward to serving you through sharing my gifts and knowledge and providing you with some tools to create the life you want and empower your dreams and your gifts into reality. Perhaps our currents will cross somewhere in the future as we all work towards creating a New Earth from our hearts in service with our unique gifts.
